A thought provoking series of workshops for the young people of London borough of Hackney. Aimed at under privileged or unemployed 16 to 24 year old’s helping them to gain confidence in their communication skills.

‘Family Matters’ will primarily be a creative writing workshop harnessing the participants experiences and developing their communication and creative thinking around the subject of a lost, missing or dear family member. Each of the young people will be tasked with writing a piece, be it a letter or poem to their family member in a reflective, artistic fashion that will be performed in a group scenario at The Concorde Youth Centre in Hackney on Thursday 5th June 2014.

The workshops will be delivered at the Concorde Centre and the Homerton Library, curated by established poet Nick Makoha with guest tuition and support from legendary UK rapper and linguist Rodney P [London Posse founding member].

The project management team at Focus For Life [FFL] have an impressive resume of organising youth programs such as the recent British Library endorsed Chaucer FFWD project. ‘FFL conceive and deliver projects that challenge young people to explore, identify and focus on the issues that will enhance their future opportunities and prospects.’

The Arts Council together with youth engagement facilitators Small Green Shoots have provided the funding to initiate and deliver the workshops.
